Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment - The Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment’s mission is to stop all maltreatment against South Dakota children and foster resilient families. The CPCM helps professionals and community members recognize, respond to and prevent child maltreatment and adversity. This work takes – and benefits – all of us. Charlie’s Cupboard - Opened in 2020, Charlie's Cupboard is an on-campus food pantry available to USD students to address food insecurity. Since its founding, over 3,000 students have received more than 15 tons of food and personal care products. With more support, Charlie's Cupboard hopes to: Expand the hours of availability; offer budget-friendly cooking classes; provide gift cards for students with dietary or cultural restrictions; and provide support for parents with infants or children. College is hard enough – it's time we put an end to food insecurity in our campus community. Any gift, large or small, will help support students at USD who may be experiencing food insecurity.
College of Arts & Sciences - With more than two dozen academic programs, the USD College of Arts & Sciences is the centerpiece of the university and for generations has served, inspired and innovated. Your support allows us to hire and train excellent faculty, continue and strengthen our programs that foster the transformational learning that comes with exploration, and provide students with scholarships and educational enrichment experiences that fall inside and outside the classroom. Any gift, large or small, will help us foster the thinkers, doers and creators of the future.
College of Fine Arts - As the only College of Fine Arts in South Dakota, we serve the state as a cultural center and as an important driver of economic growth for our region. Your support ensures that the USD College of Fine Arts has the ability to attract, train and empower a generation of leaders who are committed to artistic expression and creative innovation – through student scholarships and programmatic support. You enable us to provide amazing artistic events and rich cultural experiences to our region and beyond with enhanced learning and performance spaces. Our students excel, whether they are in the smallest of our South Dakota communities or on the greatest stages of the world.
Coyote Legacy Scholarship - For many incoming freshmen, the journey to becoming a Coyote began long before they became a student. It began with a parent or grandparent who attended USD and instilled in them a love and appreciation for the collegiate experience. The USD Alumni Association debuted the Coyote Legacy Scholarship program in the fall of 2018 to recognize and honor families who have made a multi-generational commitment to USD. More than 220 South Dakota students have received financial support to attend USD through the program. Make a gift during #UniteforUSD to grow the Coyote Legacy Scholarship program and support USD’s tradition of excellence.
Dr. Michael P. Roche Distinguished Teaching Award - The purpose of this endowed award is to sustain and broaden the legacy of Dr. Michael P. Roche, professor of criminal justice at USD for 47 years. Honors Program - For over 50 years, the USD Honors Program has equipped students for post-graduation success through innovative coursework, leadership opportunities, a vibrant living-learning community and mentored research projects. Our students do amazing things while on campus and after they leave our program, like launching Charlie’s Cupboard (Hannah Booth ’21) or working with faculty to produce cutting-edge scholarly literature on Alzheimer’s prevention (Kirsten May ’20) and consumer data collection (Benjamin Boehrns ’21). When you support the Honors Program, you are investing in some of USD’s most active and engaged students.
Knudson School of Law - The USD School of Law was founded in 1901. Since then, a community committed to excellence, service and leadership that was originally envisioned has been brought to life by generations of our graduates as they have continuously provided service to their profession and communities. The USD Knudson School of Law recently established the 1901 Fund. This endowed fund was specifically created to provide scholarships exclusively to law school students – to ensure that we attract and retain the best applicants and that no talented student is unable to go to law school because they cannot afford it.
ROTC - For more than 100 years, the USD ROTC has been a pillar of academic excellence, professional achievement and athletic prowess on the university’s campus. In the past year, USD’s ROTC rose 100 spots – to No. 37 – on the ROTC’s national Order of Merit Scores list. Those rankings are based on cadets’ performances in academics, leadership and physical fitness. In addition to moving the ROTC program to the DakotaDome, USD is looking to further enhance its training facilities to construct a rappel tower, obstacle course, ropes course and more. Your support will make these plans a reality.
Sanford School of Medicine - With the help of donors and supporters like you, the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine has provided more than a century of nationally acclaimed medical education. School of Education Helping Hands Fund - Through the Center for Student & Professional Services, the USD School of Education (SOE) in 2021 launched the Helping Hands Student Emergency Fund to address students’ financial concerns. The fund provides small grants to students in the SOE who face challenges affording day-to-day expenses. By making a gift of any size to the Helping Hands fund, you will grow this emergency fund so that we can support more students – enhancing their retention and graduation rates by lessening their financial burdens – as they work to hone their craft as high-quality educators and professionals in their chosen fields.
School of Health Sciences - The USD School of Health Sciences serves as the region's premier, comprehensive school of health and human service professions. Student Emergency Fund - In response to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, USD launched the Student Emergency Fund to support students who faced major disruptions, such as unexpected travel and moving expenses, lost income, canceled performances and competitions. While the pandemic has ebbed and flowed, its ramifications remain and students have been forced to continue to adapt to new learning realities and financial circumstances. The Student Emergency Fund is USD’s ongoing effort to provide financial assistance to students in need and to remove barriers so that our students receive the highest quality education possible.
Undergraduate Research - Undergraduates who are involved in mentored research and creative scholarship have improved outcomes in their college careers. They have better retention rates, higher GPAs and a higher rate of continuing to graduate school. However, performing such work – and perhaps traveling to a conference to present it – may cost money the student does not have. While we seek to support undergraduate students in all forms and topics of research, our ability to do so is limited by the funds available. By donating to the Undergraduate Research Fund – where undergraduates are the sole beneficiaries – we can help these students take advantage of these opportunities.
University Art Galleries - The University Art Galleries (UAG) provides visual arts education for the University of South Dakota and the broader community through rotating contemporary and historical art exhibitions, artist lectures, research programs, curatorial projects, outreach and multidisciplinary events. By working across disciplines, UAG can provide spaces for intergenerational and intercultural learning – generating positive social inclusion and welcoming environments for experimentation, exploration and meaningful connection – among the USD community, alumni and public.
USD Scholarship Fund - The USD Scholarship Fund provides our undergraduate students with the scholarships and assistance they need to solely focus on their academics and have some degree of financial relief. Undergraduate scholarships provide expanded access to higher education, allowing academically qualified students the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills for success and strengthen our academic community. Scholarships also give USD a competitive edge, helping to attract the most talented students. By contributing to the USD Scholarship Fund, your gift – large or small – has the potential to inspire students of different backgrounds, majors and goals.
USD Spirit Teams - Yippeo! Here we go! The University of South Dakota Spirit Teams include the USD Cheerleading and Dance Teams. USD Student Counseling Center - The USD Student Counseling Center (SCC) is seeing an increase in both the number and severity of cases among students seeking counseling. With your help, the SCC will be able to provide more widespread mental health services, such as: Additional counseling services to serve our students; assisting students with limited resources to be able to access medical care and the necessary medications used to improve mental health conditions; adding Zen Zones – recharge stations for self-care – across campus that will create safe and calming spaces for students without facing the stigma of walking into a therapists office, which prevents many for seeking the help that they need.
USD Women in Philanthropy - Inspired by a shared mission, USD Women in Philanthropy (WIP) provides a platform where women can pool their resources, passion and philanthropic insight to make a difference not only in the lives of students but also in their respective communities. This year’s signature initiative is the President’s Senior Leadership Institute, and the other three efforts we’re supporting are: The Knudson School of Law: Women Leaders Lecture Series, the Native Student Services Learning Living Community, the Cultural Wellness Coalition film festival. Together with the USD WIP community, through a gift of any size, we can make an immediate impact in students’ lives.
